The Hmong have been long time friends of the U.S., having served alongside American soldiers and the CIA during the Vietnam War. It is because of these alliances that thousands of Hmong resettled in the U.S. as refugees after the war ended.

Reacting to news reports that the White House plans to eliminate family-based preferences in its immigration reform proposal, NaFFAA National Chair Alma Kern describes as “extremely disappointing” the Bush Administration’s move to deny immigrants – who had legalized their status in the U.S. – the right to sponsor their relatives to join them.

With the long-term goal of mobilizing the 1.8 million Filipinos of voting age in the U.S. to go out and vote in local and national elections, NaFFAA is undertaking a nationwide voter mobilization project between now and November next year.

Following the barring of local Chinese American journalists at a Hillary Clinton fundraiser in San Francisco last week, the multicultural advertising industry trade group - The Asian American Advertising Federation (3AF) - urged Senator Clinton and other political candidates to take notice of, and engage, the dynamic, and fast-growing Asian media in the United States.

The National Alliance for Filipino Veterans Equity (NAFVE) praised Speaker Nancy Pelosi's statement on equity for Filipino World War II Veterans.

“I’m here today to fulfill a pledge to continue the fight for the passage of the Filipino Veterans Equity bill,” NaFFAA National Chair Alma Q. Kern told members of the U.S. House Committee on Veterans Affairs, which held a hearing February 15 on the Equity Act of 2007. “The time is here, now, to show the whole world that this country does not forget the courage and bravery of those who fought for its freedom.”

The City Council selected Rose Zimmerman as the first female city attorney in Daly City’s history at its regular meeting Oct. 9. Zimmerman will succeed retiring City Attorney Stan Gustavson when she assumes the position on Nov. 6, 2006. Ms. Zimmerman has served as Daly City’s Assistant City Attorney since 2002.
